<p>LinkedIn is the leading site for business professionals of all kinds. Unlike <a title="Chiropractic Marketing with Facebook Five Reasons Every Chiropractor Should Use Facebook for Their Business" href="http://chiromarketingguide.com/socialmediamarketing/chiropractic-marketing-with-facebook.html">FaceBook</a>, MySpace or <a title="Promote Your Chiropractic Practice with Twitter" href="http://chiromarketingguide.com/socialmediamarketing/twitter.html">Twitter</a>, LinkedIn is a social networking website for the business and career minded who don’t have the time to play Farmville or wax poetic about their latest caramel macchiato.</p>
<p>While certainly not the only tool you should be using in your on-line promotion efforts, LinkedIn is extremely effective and deserves a fair investment of your time and attention. LinkedIn can help you create an on-line &#8220;testimonial&#8221; site, where not only your credentials are noted but actual, live people and patients will leave positive feedback about you, your clinic, your staff and the wonderful results that they have received.</p>

<p>Most LinkedIn members only complete about 70% of their profile details. While this may be okay on sites like Tumblr or Pinterest, your LinkedIn profile will work best when it is 100% complete. A finished profile will not only give other members better insight into your skills and experience – it will also elevate your search engine results on LinkedIn – and on the internet in general.</p>
<p>Although it will take time and a little bit of effort, be sure to add your professional history and list any special skills you have acquired no matter how minor you consider them. This will allow more people to find you based on the keywords they input when searching.</p>
<p>In order to complete your profile you will also need at least three “recommendations” from other LinkedIn members. These do not need to be long winded testaments to your incredible skills but instead can be short, lively recommendations that are easy to read and digest.</p>
<p>The key to getting the three recommendations you need (and as many more as you can) is to <em>ask</em>. Notice any former office managers or chiropractic assistants on the site? <em>Ask them for a recommendation</em>. How about your former partner or the DC you worked for when you first graduated? <em>Ask them!</em> Most importantly, if you have a patient who has had great results in your offices ask him/her to write you a recommendation. It is believed that a person that has a high number of brief recommendations will do better than someone who has only 2 or 3 longer ones.</p>
<p>Another way to boost your ratings, is to brand yourself as an expert on a certain subject. Obviously as a Chiropractor you are an expert in musculoskeletal problems, but you may also have specialized knowledge in other areas. Perhaps your emphasis is in nutrition or you are a spinal decompression specialist. You need to let other LinkedIn members know. You can do this by using the answers tab where you can offer to answer questions asked by other LinkIn members. Your answers are then rated and, as they gain rankings, you will be branded as an expert in that particular subject.</p>
<p>The &#8220;Groups&#8221; tab helps you find LinkedIn groups related to your specialty, industry, or any civic groups you belong to. Here quantity is not as important as quality, but it is recommended that you join as many as possible (up to 50). When you belong to more &#8220;Groups&#8221; you&#8217;ll have more potential contacts. Once you have joined a group and been confirmed by the group owner, check to see what the group’s discussion board guidelines are. If they permit it, post a personal note about yourself and your practice.</p>
<p>The name of the game with LinkedIn is to form as many relationships with other members as possible, get positive recommendations, and, of course, to make sure that everything on the site about you is positive. That means always treating other LinkedIn members with the utmost respect and kindness (even if sometimes that&#8217;s the last thing you want to do) and always giving excellent service to your chiropractic patients. Once you&#8217;ve accomplished this, you&#8217;ll be well on your way to creating a powerful online reputation.</p>

<p>Workplace Burnout is a condition that occurs due to high levels of stress within the workplace over a lengthy period of time. This can happen at any type of workplace and is not solely relegated to Chiropractic offices.</p>
<p>It starts when a person, or Doctor, feels overwhelmed by work and is unable to cope with the normal office routine due to high levels of stress, emotional and sometimes physical exhaustion. Experiencing burnout can cause a person to feel highly unmotivated and unhappy. It can reduce productivity, interrupt the normal flow of work, and even begin to affect family and social relationships. At its worst it can even have an adverse effect on the Doctor’s health.</p>
<p>Burnout can be caused by a number of different factors alone or in concert. Lack of control in the practice, boredom or monotony at the practice, extreme pressure to meet constant and excessive patient demands and a lack of recognition can all lead to burnout.<br />
Burnout does not happen overnight but over many months and sometimes even years. It builds slowly in most cases and comes to a head when things are most stressful, such as slow periods when new patient visits are down or when more than the normal amount of patients begin to complain that the results they are getting aren’t sufficient.</p>
<h3>Signs of Workplace Burnout</h3>

Most of the early signs of burnout are related to high stress levels and other mental issues rather than the actual physical state of a Doctor’s well-being. Feelings like frustration, hopelessness, irritability and lack of emotional energy are all early signs.</p>
<p>As the state of burnout progresses, physical symptoms such as fatigue, insomnia, weight gain or weight loss may occur. It is during this later stage that a Chiropractor is at higher risk of developing extreme mental depression and other emotional problems such as anxiety attacks or angry outbursts. Obviously these are things we don’t want happening in front of patients or, for that matter, anyone else.</p>
<p>A great way to find out if you are suffering from possible burnout is to take the test below. It’s best to be as honest as possible and not take too long trying to ‘figure out’ the questions. Just answer them honestly and quickly and move on.</p>

<p>Yes No  I find myself feeling unusually fatigued or tired after seeing patients.</p>
<p>Yes No  In the morning I have a sense of dread in the pit of my stomach when I think about having to adjust patients all day.</p>
<p>Yes No  I am always a few minutes late. Sometimes I arrive after the first few patients have already arrived.</p>
<p>Yes No  I haven’t exercised regularly for a few weeks or months.</p>
<p>Yes No  I can’t seem to reach any of my office goals or catch up on needed paperwork.</p>
<p>Yes No  I’m starting to look at patients in a negative way, and I am less patient with their questions.</p>
<p>Yes No  I spend more time alone than I do with my family.</p>
<p>Yes No  I tell myself that I am a failure or that I am not where I am supposed to be in my life.</p>
<p>Yes No  I’m using sex, drugs, food, alcohol or some other diversion to make me ‘feel better’.</p>
<p>Yes No  I wonder what other jobs or careers I could be doing besides Chiropractic.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>If you answered YES to 3 or more of the above questions then you are suffering from burnout and need to do something to get your Chiro mojo back before you blow a gasket.</p>
<h3>Chiropractic practice management strategies to help with workplace burnout</h3>
<p>Most burnout problems can be alleviated with the same methods used to combat stress. Physical exercise is a must, especially since the profession we have chosen is a physically demanding one. Regular exercise helps to keep you balanced and the endorphins can be a depression reducer.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Like it or not, gone are the days when a quarter page Yellow Page ad kept your phone ringing off the hook and new patients walking through the door. Today new chiropractic patients are more influenced by a first page Google listing than old style phone book ads.</p>
<p>In many ways, this is great news for chiropractors. A first page organic (not paid) listing on Google can bring a huge amount of traffic to your website. And if your <a href="http://chiromarketingguide.com/chiropracticwebsite/chiropractic-website.html" title="3 Ways to Make Your Chiropractic Website a Patient-Generating Machine">chiropractic website</a> is well structured, it can bring you tons of new patients as well.</p>
<p>Many of our doctors are a bit skeptical about this claim, but it&#8217;s very possible to generate 5 to 8 new patients per week directly from your chiropractic website &#8212; without much effort! In looking over our stats for this article, I found that on Wednesday alone we scheduled 4 new patients from phone calls generated by the internet.</p>

<h3>Search algorithm changes demand attention</h3>
<p>However, recent changes in Google&#8217;s algorithm mean that you can no longer take a passive approach to your chiropractic website. Even if you&#8217;ve hired a website company to handle your site, you need to understand the rules of the game to be sure you’re getting good value for your money.</p>
<p>Recently, Google&#8217;s Panda algorithm update created havoc with websites that had weak or poor content, sending formerly high ranking sites tumbling off the first page of search engine page results (SERPS) and into relative obscurity. For many web masters, this had disastrous financial consequences, and left them wondering how to recover. Many other websites were left entirely unaffected.</p>
<p><strong>What made the difference?</strong></p>
<p>In large part, the difference could be traced to the quality of the website&#8217;s content.</p>
<p>Although there have always been certain informal rules that most website writers and search engine optimization professionals follow, the new algorithms changes upped the ante.</p>
<p>Whereas in years past, a new page of content could be fairly short and still receive Google&#8217;s attention, now that content must be longer and have more substance. In addition, it is still important for the content to be unique, (meaning that it&#8217;s not posted anywhere else on the internet).</p>
<h3>Does your chiropractic website company deliver unique content?</h3>
<p>Posting unique content can be easy to control if you write your own website pages and blog posts. But are you sure you&#8217;re getting unique content if you are subscribing to a chiropractic website company or are hiring someone else to write content for you?</p>
<p>There is an easy way to check if the content posted to your site is unique. For only 5 centts per search, <a href="http://www.copyscape.com/" target="_blank">Copyscape</a> allows you to check whether anyone has plagiarized your content or verify that the content your writer or website company has created is unique.</p>
<p>This is more important than many people realize. Duplicate content is extremely prevalent and from a search engine standpoint is of minimal value.</p>
<p>To give you an idea of how this works, I took a page of text from another local chiropractor&#8217;s site. I then copied and pasted that text into Copyscape&#8217;s premium version. The results are shown below.</p>

<p>As you can see, there are 59 other chiropractors&#8217; websites that share almost the identical webpage. (I have blurred out the names of the websites and urls for privacy reasons). If you&#8217;re like me, the last thing I want is cookie cutter website content.Particulary if I&#8217;ve paid a website company to supply me with &#8220;unique&#8221; content.</p>
<h3>“Fresher” is better</h3>
<p>In addition to unique content, Google&#8217;s &#8220;Fresh&#8221; algorithim update makes it even more important to have frequently updated website pages and posts. Designed to determine which searches demand fresher results, this algorithm affects approximately 35% of searches. Quickly changing news items, like celebrity information and sports results are those most often impacted by this change, but it can also work to your advantage as well.</p>
<p>To show you how you can benefit, take a look below. These were the results I found when I searched the term, Garland chiropractor.</p>

<p>As you can see, a few spots below our number 1 result, there is a second result, for a fairly recent blog post from our site. Two first page Google results will definely increase the liklihood of patient conversions.</p>
<p>Although I do invest a small amount of money on content development (I don&#8217;t have the time to write my own blog posts) and <a href="http://chiromarketingguide.com/chiropracticwebsite/searchengineoptimization.html" title="Search Engine Optimization – Your First Step to Higher Page Rankings">search engine optimization</a>, this cost is trivial when compared to forms of advertising like <a href="http://chiromarketingguide.com/targeted-pay-per-click-advertising.html" title="Targeted Pay per Click Advertising | Promote Your Chiropractic Practice">pay per click</a> and newspaper ads.</p>
<p>You can use these simple content techniques to improve your own website&#8217;s ranking. Converting traffic from your chiropractic website is getting new chiropractic patients the easy way!</p>

And since this is the time of year when both expenses and taxes are in the forefront of our minds, we’ve decided to center this article around tax strategies.</p>
<p>Tax write-offs are key to reducing the amount of income tax you’ll pay. So we have compiled 7 simple tax-saving strategies for you to consider.</p>
<p>1) <strong>Your Location&#8217;s Rent</strong> &#8211; For most chiropractors, their monthly property lease payment is a major expense. Fortunately, rent expenses can be deducted, as can other terms of a lease, like property taxes. Some business owners choose to make their January rent payments in December. If your chiropractic practice is using a cash basis, then it will be deducted with the current year. However, if your chiropractic business uses accrual accounting, it needs to be capitalized.<br />
<br />
2) <strong>Business Equipment Repairs</strong> &#8211; You can deduct the cost of repairing business property or equipment, but you must distinguish between a &#8220;repair&#8221; and a capital item. To clarify, let&#8217;s look at an example. If you were to service your business&#8217; air conditioner, it would be categorized as a repair, but if you were to buy an entirely new air conditioning unit, it would be considered a capital expense.<br />

3) <strong>Business Travel</strong> &#8211; Many doctors must travel to attend seminars. If you&#8217;ve found yourself in this situation, you can deduct your airfare (of course, this allowance is excluded if you&#8217;ve used frequent flier miles to buy an airline ticket). You can also deduct the shuttle or taxi ride from the airport to hotel, lodging and meals (drinks, food tax and tip) Other things you can deduct during the trip include the cost of laundry, tips for drivers and bellhops, the cost of receiving a fax, and computer or cell phone rental.<br />

<p>4) <strong>Business Gifts</strong> &#8211; For those  who like to thank the doctors and lawyers who send business their way, the tax codes allow for deductions of up to $25 per person per year. If your costs exceed this amount you must remember that only the $25 is deductible, the balance is not. Also note that the tax rules for “gifts” are different from those for &#8220;entertainment&#8221;. If you give someone a $25.00 restaurant gift certificate &#8212; it is deductible. However if you mistakenly code the gift certificate as &#8220;entertainment&#8221; it could be subject to the 50% rule, which would limit your total deduction to $12.50.</p>
<p>Note: You must keep all gift receipts, along with notes that detail the date of purchase, the recipient, the purpose and any other important facts. Since many receipts are printed on thermal paper you may want to copy or scan the receipts to prevent fading.<br />
<br />
5) <strong>Chiropractic Marketing</strong> &#8211;  Many of your chiropractic marketing expenses can be deducted. Tally up your costs for newspaper ads, yellow page advertising, pay per click ads, website design and maintenance, and event fees. Don&#8217;t forget smaller expenses like business cards and printed advertising pieces, like brochures and exercise handouts.<br />
<br />
6) <strong>Miscellaneous Small Expenses</strong> &#8211; Sometimes very small expenses tend to slip our minds, but over the course of a year they can really add up. Here are a few to consider:</p>
<p>Banking and Merchant Account Fees &#8211; Merchant account service fees and Pay Pal fees are both deductible. So are monthly bank fees, ATM charges, and online banking costs.<br />
<br />
Professional Subscription and Dues &#8211; Dues for professional, business or civic organizations are deductible. If you are a member of American Chiropractic Association, Chamber of Commerce or the Better Business Bureau, these dues can be written off. Business and professional publication subscriptions can also be deducted.<br />
Legal and Professional Fees &#8211; Accounting and tax preparation, along with legal and appraisal fees, are deductible.<br />
<br />
Office Maintenance and Expenses &#8211; Cleaning and janitorial services can be deducted. Magazine subscriptions, flowers and plants, bottled water and other beverages and snacks are also deductible. General office supplies, like paper, pens, and postage, are also included in this list.<br />
<br />
7) <strong>Incorporate Your Practice</strong> &#8211; For even more tax savings, consider incorporating your chiropractic practice. Depending upon the laws of your state, you may be able to establish yourself as a Professional Corporation. This designation is a specific type of corporation for business professionals,like architects, doctors, accountanta, and lawyers. Whether you choose to set up your business as a professional corporation, an LLC or an S Corp &#8212; you may find a corporation will provide both additional tax and liability protection.<br />

Be sure to review any of these recommendations with your business accountant to be sure you are in compliance with current tax laws. They can help you face the day with enthusiasm, or leave you feeling like you&#8217;re ready to crawl back into bed.</p>
<p>Usually your clothes are one of the first things people notice about you. Your attire is a classic form of non-verbal communication. And like it or not, your clothing will be factored into any opinion your patients form about you.</p>
<p>Your choice of clothing will shape people&#8217;s opinion about your:</p>
<ul>
<li>intelligence</li>
<li>credibility</li>
<li>professionalism</li>
</ul>
<p>Most of us acknowledge that work clothing is different from what we&#8217;d wear to an evening party or a baseball game.</p>
<p>ECG, a New Jersey company that specializes in helping people communicate more effectively, offers the following advice, &#8220;When you&#8217;re in front of a group giving a presentation, making a speech or just plain talking, you need to choose your attire to match the event. For example, you will typically want to dress one notch of formality above your audience.&#8221;</p>
<p>As a chiropractor, every day you face a captive audience. Each patient is looking to you for help and advice. If your overall demeanor and appearance communicates authority, your patient will be more likely to follow your guidance with confidence. Your clothing can help influence your patients&#8217; opinions.</p>
<p>So what if your preferred working attire is scrubs? What image are you conveying?</p>
<p>Historically, scrubs have been used by surgeons while performing surgery. They are casual clothes that can be easily washed. Once out of the surgical arena, most doctors change back into more formal attire.</p>
<p>Ask yourself why you are wearing scrubs? Do you feel it conveys a professional image? Or are you reaching for scrubs simply because, your business wardrobe is limited and scrubs offer an easy low cost alternative? Or maybe because scrubs simplify your morning routine&#8230;</p>

<p>Take a look down at your feet. Do your shoes convey an image of professionalism or do they make it seem like your bank account has seen better days? Good, un-scuffed leather shoes enhance the appearance of success. So if your shoes are showing signs of wear, dig out a jar of shoe polish or grab a professional shoeshine.</p>
<p>Clothing is an extremely individual choice. When choosing your work attire you should consider the balance between your physical and psychological comfort. If you&#8217;re someone who chafes at the idea of wearing a tie, conservative dress may not be right for you. But be aware that too much self-expression could be distracting to your patients.</p>
<p>To sum up, think about the impressions you&#8217;re making with your clothing choices and think about whether they match your practice goals. If not, maybe a trip to the local mall is in order.</p>

<p>Some chiropractors who understand the power of social media has begun to create their own Facebook pages, and some actively communicate with their patients and followers through Twitter. But let&#8217;s face it, many doctors just don&#8217;t have the time to post frequent tweets or updates to their Facebook pages.</p>

<p>That&#8217;s why we wanted to alert you to a recent change that could adversely effect the way your chiropractic website and blog posts show up on Google.</p>
<p>Recently, Google changed the way it ranks search results to favor it&#8217;s own Google+ users.  This has raised a few eyebrows among marketing analysts and internet savvy marketers.</p>
<p>Google+ is Google&#8217;s answer to Facebook and it has seen a rapid membership increase, with December 2011 numbers exceeding over 49 million visits. Analyst Paul Allen, founder of Ancestry.com said he expects Google+ to reach about 400 million users by the end of 2012.</p>
<p>However, this astonishing rate of growth has not stopped Google from pushing even harder.</p>
<p>In many cases, Google is now promoting content published on Google + more aggressively than content published elsewhere. It has made website publishers and internet marketers rethink the way they approach recent online marketing campaigns.</p>
<p><strong>As a chiropractor, this will also affect your chiropractic marketing strategies.</strong></p>
<p>It seems clear that if you want your blog posts, and social media snippets to get more attention from Google, then you must embrace Google+. In an earlier post, we talked about Google + and how it differs from Facebook, so you can learn more specifics there.</p>
<h3>Sign up now</h3>
<p>Signing up for a Google+ business page is a simple process.  Start by creating a gmail address. Next follow this link to set up business page. Google makes the process fairly intuitive, even for those of us who aren&#8217;t techies.</p>
<p>From the navigation area on the left, select the &#8220;local business or place&#8221; option. You will be prompted to enter your country and phone number. Once you have completed this information Google will bring up your &lt;link&gt; Google Places listing. If you are presented with multiple options, be sure you chose the address and information associated with your current places listing.</p>

<p>Next you&#8217;ll be asked if you wish to share your message with others. You can invite your &#8220;circles&#8221; to view your business page as well as the public. (Don&#8217;t worry if you don&#8217;t know what &#8220;circles&#8221; are right now.  Google offers video tutorials or you can learn the basics by reading this article.)</p>

<p>We recommend you use Google+ in exactly the same way you currently use Facebook. (If you don&#8217;t already have a Facebook business page, now may the right time for you to start interacting with patient and prospective patients through social media). Although this may involve double work, the benefits you should receive from improved search engine rankings will be worth the effort.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This weekend, I had an opportunity to attend a seminar hosted by Heel, the well-recognized homeopathy manufacturer. The seminar, which focused on natural ways to treat viral infections, made quite an impression on me. I was surprised to discover the depth and breadth of the powerful natural homeopathic medicines at my disposal.  It also made me realize that each product we stock can be a valuable chiropractic marketing tool.</p>
<p>When I suggest that products can be effective chiropractic marketing tools, I am talking about much more than the extra cash they can add to your practice. In fact, I feel the true benefits are much larger. </p>
<p><strong>The quality and effectiveness of the chiropractic products you offer to your patients will influence how they perceive you.</strong></p>
<p>That&#8217;s a bold statement, but I believe it&#8217;s true. Whether you stock a particular brand of durable medical goods or a pain relieving cream &#8212; if  the product works well for your patients it will reflect positively upon you and your practice. The product&#8217;s success will help to reinforce your position as an expert in the eyes of your patients.   Alternately, if the product falls apart or doesn&#8217;t work well, it will reflect negatively upon you.</p>
<p>You may argue this point, saying that we can&#8217;t be responsible for manufacturing defects. While this is true, your reputation may still suffer a ding by your association with a subpar chiropractic product.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s much like a retailer who sells cheap merchandise that falls apart after a few uses. Would you continue to buy from a company if frequently you had to return bad products? I know I wouldn&#8217;t. </p>
<p>That&#8217;s why I tend to be cautious as I add new chiropractic product lines and therapies to my practice. </p>
<p>Over the past couple of years, I have dabbled a bit with homeopathy.  Mainly I stock a few remedies for arthritis pain and muscle strains along with products for seasonal allergies and sinuses problems.  But as my patient&#8217;s favorable responses have grown, I&#8217;ve begun to investigate homeopathy further.</p>
<h3>Homeopathy&#8217;s  Impressive Track Record </h3>
<p><a href="http://chiromarketingguide.com/how-to-market-to-pi-lawyers/"><img src="http://chiromarketingguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/300x250-md-referral.jpg" alt="300x250 md referral How Bad Chiropractic Products Can Jeopardize Your Reputation" title="300x250-md-referral" width="300" height="250" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1054" /></a>During the seminar, Dr. Stephen Perlstein, the featured speaker, described his firsthand experiences with Heel products.  His treatment protocols included a few notable successes. In one case, a patient with two artificial knee joints experienced a total elimination of pain following three sessions where he received injectable homeopathy treatment. Dr  Perlstein&#8217;s patients also offered positive feedback on the seasonal &#8220;homeopathy flu shots&#8221; he offers. </p>
<p>Throughout the seminar, the company’s claims of effectiveness were well documented by clinical studies. While I listened, my mind reeled with the potential applications.<br />
<br /></br></p>
<h3>Research the chiropractic products you carry</h3>
<p>In the future, homeopathy will have a much larger place in my practice. Although I&#8217;ll have to invest more time in research and proper application, the potential rewards for both my patients and my practice will be well worth the effort.</p>
<p>Whatever chiropractic products you choose to offer, know that you can&#8217;t rely solely on your staff to sell the items. Although it&#8217;s great if you do have a staff member who is a natural salesperson, you must be the one to take the lead. Discuss the product with your patient during their office visit. If the patient seems interested, direct them to a designated staff member who can further assist with the sale. </p>
